Notes and Rules

 

Every class offered herein, which is covered by the rules and regulations of the current VHSA and BHSA rule book, will be conducted accordingly.  All hunter classes are judged on performance; including way of going, style of jumping and soundness.  Manners and Suitability emphasized in Pony and Children’s/Adult Amateur Hunter.  All Equitation classes are judged on Hands, Seat, Guidance and Control.  The judge’s decisions are final.

 

Juniors are riders who have not reached age 18 by 12/01/09.

 

Champion and Reserve Champion points and ribbons awarded for each division.  There must be at least three participants in all classes. Points for the year end award will be based on VHSA/BHSA rules except Beginner Division, Special Equitation & Special Hunter.  

 

Divisions must be held five times or it will be dropped from year end awards. Year End Division Ribbons to be presented at the last show and the exhibitor must be present to claim awards.

California warm ups are available before you have ridden for the class, $10.00, course B.

 

VHSA and BHSA membership forms available at secretary’s stand.  VPBA points to count for ponies properly registered with the BHSA and VPBA for Green and Pony Hunter divisions.

 

All classes may be combined or split at management’s discretion.

 

Proper attire required.  All riders must wear ASTM/SEI helmets with chin straps secured when mounted.

 

Entering a class or schooling at this Show constitutes an agreement that the exhibitor will not hold the Management, Staff or Volunteers of Hidden Haven, The VHSA or Hanover County Parks & Recreation responsible for any loss or injury due to intrinsic dangers of equine activities.

 

Proof of negative Coggins and a signed release form must be registered with Secretary before mounting.  Please bring a copy of the Coggins to leave with the secretary.

 

Directions To Pole Green Park From Interstate 295: Take exit 38A.  Go East 3.9 miles on Pole Green Road (Rt 627).  Turn left into Park in front of Elementary School.  Horse Show ring turn off will be on your right.

Ring 1

 

Pleasure Pony-Open to ponies ridden by juniors (VHSA, BHSA)

 

Student Equitation-Open to riders in their first or second year of showing over fences 2’or higher as of December 1 of the current show year. Fences 2’ (BHSA)

 

Low Hunter-Open to horses & ponies   Fences at 2’ (BHSA)

 

Maiden Hunter-Open to ponies & horses in their first year of showing that have not jumped higher than 2' as of 12/01/09.  Fences at 2' (BHSA)

 

Special Hunter-Open to horses or ponies  Fences at 2’3”

 

Schooling Hunter-Open to horses or ponies.  Fences at 2’6” (BHSA)

 

Green Pony/Green Hunter-Open to  ponies in their first year of showing at regulation heights ridden by juniors and horses in their first or second year of showing over fences at or above 2’6” as of 12/01/09  Fences small 2', medium 2’3”, large 2'6" and horses 2'6" (VHSA,BHSA,VPBA*)

 

Pony Hunter-Open to ponies ridden by Juniors. Fences small 2’, medium 2’3”& large 2'6" (VHSA, BHSA, VPBA*)

 

HH/VHSA/BHSA Pony Equitation-Open to juniors on ponies.   Judged on hands, seat & control.   At least one quarter of the riders must return for the flat.  Fences small 2’, medium 2’3” & large 2'6"

 

Pleasure Horse-Open to horses (VHSA, BHSA)

 

Children’s/Adult Amateur Hunter-Open to horses ridden by juniors & adult amateurs.  Fences 2'6"(VHSA, BHSA)

Open Hunter-Open to horses.   Fences 2'9"- 3’ (VHSA, BHSA)

 

Ring 2

 

Lead Line -Open to riders 7 & under by 12/01/09.  Judged 50% Equitation 50% Suitability  May cross enter into class 37.  (BHSA)

 

Pre Short Stirrup Equitation-Open to riders age 10 & under by 12/01/09   May cross-enter into classes 1 and 2 or 26 and 27.   Four ground poles (BHSA)

 

Short Stirrup Equitation-Open to riders age 12 & under by 12/01/09   Four fences at 18"  Riders may not cross enter into classes where they jump more than 18” (BHSA)

 

Short Stirrup Hunter-Open to horses and ponies ridden by children age 12 & under by 12/01/09   Four fences at 18" Riders and mounts may not cross enter into classes where they jump more than 18” (VHSA)

 

Special Equitation-Open to juniors & adult amateurs who have not jumped higher than 18”.  First round two fences, second round four fences at 18".  Riders may not cross into classes where they jump more than 18”.

 

Beginner Hunter-Open to ponies or horses who have not jumped higher than 18”.  Two jumps 18” trotting only.  Mounts may cross enter into Beginner Hunter II and Pleasure divisions.

 

Beginner Hunter II-Open to ponies or horses who have not jumped higher than 18”.  Four jumps 18” trotting only.  Mounts may cross enter into Beginner Hunter and Pleasure divisions.

“Intrinsic dangers of equine activities” means those dangers or conditions that are an integral part of equine activities, including but not limited to, (i) the propensity of equines to behave in ways that may result in injury, harm or death to persons on or around them; (ii) the unpredictability of an equine’s reaction to such things as sounds, sudden movement, and unfamiliar objects, persons, or other animals; (iii) certain hazards such as surface and subsurface conditions; (iv) collisions with other animals or objects; and (v) the potential of a participant acting in a negligent manner that may contribute to injury to the participant or others, such as failing to maintain control over the equine or not acting within the participant’s ability.
