Notes and Rules

Every class offered herein, which is covered by the rules and regulations of the current VHSA and BHSA rule book, will be conducted accordingly. All hunter classes are judged on performance; including way of going, style of jumping and soundness. Manners and Suitability emphasized in Pony and Children’s/Adult Amateur Hunter. All Equitation classes are judged on Hands, Seat, Guidance and Control. The judge’s decisions are final.

Juniors are riders who have not reached age 18 by 12/01/11.

Champion and Reserve Champion points and ribbons awarded for each division. There must be at least three participants in all classes. Points for the year end award will be based on VHSA/BHSA rules except Beginner Division, Special Equitation & Special Hunter.

Divisions must be held three times or it will be dropped from year end awards. Year End Division Champion & Reserve Ribbons to be presented at the last show and the exhibitor must be present to claim awards.

California warm ups are available before you have ridden for the class, $10.00, course B.

VHSA and BHSA membership forms available at secretary’s stand. VPBA points to count for ponies properly registered with the BHSA and VPBA for Green and Pony Hunter divisions.

All classes may be combined or split at management’s discretion.

Proper attire required. All riders must wear ASTM/SEI helmets with chin straps secured when mounted.

Entering a class or schooling at this Show constitutes an agreement that the exhibitor will not hold the Management, Staff or Volunteers of Hidden Haven, The VHSA/BHSA or Hanover County Parks & Recreation responsible for any loss or injury due to intrinsic dangers of equine activities.

Proof of negative Coggins and a signed release form must be registered with Secretary before mounting. Please bring a copy of the Coggins to leave with the secretary.

Ring 1

Pleasure Pony-Open to ponies ridden by juniors (VHSA, BHSA)

Student Equitation-Open to riders in their first or second year of showing over fences at 2’ or higher as of 12/01/11 Riders are limited to two years only, whether they compete over fences or not. Judged as an equitation division. Courses may be trotted. Fences 2’ (BHSA)

Low Hunter-Open to horses & ponies. No restrictions on riders. Fences 2’ (BHSA)

Maiden Hunter-Open to horses and ponies in their first year of showing over fences at 2’ or higher as of 12/01/11. No Restrictions on riders. Fences 2' Courses may be trotted. (BHSA)

Special Hunter-Open to horses or ponies Fences at 2’3”

Schooling Hunter-Open to horses and ponies. Adults may ride ponies not entered in a Pony Division. Fences at 2’6” (BHSA)

Green Pony/Green Hunter-Open to ponies in their first year of showing at regulation heights ridden by juniors and horses in their first or second year of showing over fences at or above 2’6” as of 12/01/11 Fences small 2', medium 2’3”, large 2'6" and horses 2'6" (VHSA,BHSA)

Pony Hunter-Open to ponies ridden by Juniors. Fences small 2’, medium 2’3”& large 2'6" (VHSA, BHSA)

HH/VHSA/BHSA Pony Equitation-Open to juniors on ponies. Judged on hands, seat & control. At least one quarter of the riders must return for the flat. Fences small 2’, medium 2’3” & large 2'6"

Pleasure Horse-Open to horses (VHSA, BHSA)

VHSA Children’s/Adult Amateur on the Flrat-Judged on position, control and guidance. To be split 14 & under, 15-17, & Adult Amateur as entries allow.(VHSA)

Children’s/Adult Amateur Hunter-Open to Juniors on horses, & Adult Amateurs on horses or ponies not entered in a pony division. Fences 2'6"(VHSA, BHSA)

HH/VHSA/BHSA Children’s/Adult Amateur Equitation-Open to juniors & adult amateurs on horses. Judged on hands, seat & control. At least one quarter of the riders must return for the flat. Fences 2'6"

Open Hunter-Open to horses and ponies not entered in a Pony Division. Fences 2'9"-3’ (VHSA, BHSA)

Ring 2

Lead Line -Open to riders age 7 & under by 12/01/11. Judged 50% Equitation 50% Suitability. May cross enter into class 38. (BHSA)

Pre Short Stirrup Equitation-Open to riders 10 years and under as of 12/01/11. Riders may be asked to walk, trot & perform simple Equitation tasks. Riders not allowed to cross enter into classes where they would be asked to canter or jump. Four ground poles (BHSA)

Short Stirrup Equitation-Open to riders age 12 & under by 12/01/11 Four fences at 18" Riders may not cross enter into classes where they jump more than 18” Courses may be trotted. (BHSA)

Short Stirrup Hunter-Open to horses and ponies ridden by children age 12 & under by 12/01/11 Four fences at 18" Riders and mounts may not cross enter into classes where they jump more than 18” (VHSA)

Special Equitation-Open to juniors & adult amateurs who have not jumped higher than 18” as of 12/01/11. Four fences at 18" Courses may be trotted.

Beginner Hunter-Open to ponies & horses who have not jumped higher than 18”. Two jumps 18” Courses may be trotted. Mounts may cross enter into Beginner Hunter II and Pleasure divisions.

Beginner Hunter II-Open to ponies & horses who have not jumped higher than 18”. Four jumps 18” Courses may be trotted. Mounts may cross enter into Beginner Hunter and Pleasure divisions.
